John co-founded Paragon in 2012 and is responsible for executing the investment strategy and managing the Paragon Australian Long Short Fund. John has over 20 years of relevant industry-specific experience, including 12 years in financial markets. Prior to establishing Paragon, John worked at Eye Management, a global resources absolute return fund as a key member of the Investment Management team. John has also worked at Patersons Securities leading Industrials research on the sell side. Prior to entering the finance industry, John held senior positions as an Engineer within leading global organisations, including Jacobs Engineering and AMEC. John holds an MBA from Melbourne Business School, and a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) (Hons), with first class honours in Applied Mathematics from the University of Melbourne. John has also completed CFA Level 1.
Hillier is responsible for all functions of the business – including finance, operations and compliance – and oversight of all key service providers to the Fund. Hillier has been an integral member of the team since Paragon’s commencent in 2012 where she performed the dual roles of Chief Financial Officer / Chief Operating Officer and now CEO. Hillier is an experienced commercial/finance leader, boasting a 25-year track record across all industry sectors including industrials, manufacturing, and retail. A qualified Chartered Accountant, Hillier has a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne.
Sam was appointed a non-executive director of Paragon in October 2017. As an innovative business leader, Sam is recognised for his significant experience in strategy, sales, and operations with a successful track record of commercialising technology-rich products globally. Sam is currently Co-CEO and co-founder of Planet Innovation, Australia’s preeminent healthtech innovation and commercialisation company. Sam is also a Director of Zen Ecosystems Pty Ltd, a leading provider of intelligent energy management solutions. Sam has a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering with honours from the University of Melbourne, a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from Melbourne Business School and has completed strategy training with London Business School.
With six years of financial markets experience, Joshua joined Paragon Funds Management as an Investment Analyst in December 2017. Prior to this, Joshua was an Investment Analyst with Zenith Investment Partners for approximately two years where he conducted fund manager research across multiple asset classes. Joshua has also worked as an Investment Analyst at an independent financial advisory firm as well as a Research Assistant at Wilson HTM. Joshua is a Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA) and holds a Bachelor of Business majoring in Economics and Finance from RMIT University.
Paragon’s advisory board was formed in October 2015 and comprises Paragon’s management along with respected industry experts. The advisory board meets on a quarterly basis to discuss Paragon’s strategic direction and identify potential growth opportunities, along with external members offering independent market insights at both the domestic and global level.
Tony has had over 35 years’ experience in the securities industry with a long record of creating and managing successful investment teams. Tony is currently with IOOF as Deputy Chairman of its Investment Policy Committee, which oversees the investment strategy, and management of some $8.2 billion of investment funds comprising the full spectrum of mainstream and alternative asset classes.
